Peterswald-Löffelscheid is about 8 km south-east of Zell (Mosel) in Hunsrück. The merger of the two parishes took place in 1970, but each part of the village has its own church. The new daughter church's consecration in Löffelscheid took place in July 1964. It is dedicated to the Mother of God (Mary Visitation) and St. Nicholas. The round building consists of two cones pushed into each other.
The 28-metre-high tower's special feature is that it was not built directly onto the church. The church of Peter and Paul in Peterswald was built in 1765/66 and is located in the middle of the village. 4 km from Peterswald is the Peterswalder Marienkapelle, popularly known as the "Bildchen". It is a popular place of pilgrimage. Seven hand-painted stations contain Mary's seven sorrows and lead pilgrims from Altlay to the Lady Chapel.
