Traumpfädchen Löfer Rabenlaypfad

The Löfer Rabenlaypfad hike starts from the edge of the forest above Löf at the shelter in the Alzbachtal valley. The parking lot is near the sports field and only 350 m away (directions are signposted).

The dream pathlet immediately shows that you need some stamina to enjoy the tour. This because is ascends quite steeply beside the Alzbach stream shortly after the starting point. It is briefly joined by the Moselsteig hike, but then continues alone again at the level of a reservoir. Wooden stairs help you negotiate a steep scarp before the edge of the forest comes into sight already. Once you are there, the ascent is over for now.

The logos point left and the gaze ranges relaxedly to the Moselle valley as you walk through expansive fields.

Once you have crossed a road, you are drawing near a wooded area, where you join the Hatzenporter Laysteig Traumpfad hike for the first time. Both hikes trace the edge of the forest on the left, but then part ways again shortly before the edge of the slope. The dream pathlet turns off to the right and goes markedly downhill, meaning that surefootedness and sturdy footwear will come in handy. Right in the middle of the densely wooded slope, you finally hit upon a path. An earthy atmosphere envelops you as you encircle a deeply cut side valley, and then the vegetation opens up and the dream pathlet, Traumpfad and Moselsteig hikes come together in a single signpost. Before you continue the hike on the left, you can enjoy a refreshing rest at the nearby Winzerhütte shelter with a panoramic view of the Moselle.

After this panorama-filled break, you follow the trail through the steep flank of the slope. Ignore the ways to Hatzenport and St. John’s Church as the Rabenlay mountain already beckons ahead! On the way there, you will need to be surefooted again, but several benches are available after to take a breather and enjoy the wonderful views of the Moselle alley. After some ups and downs, you finally arrive at the Rabenlay mountain with benches and a shelter, rewarding you with a magnificent view.

Reluctantly tearing yourself away from this idyll, you follow the lush hedges gently uphill. Where the Traumpfad hike goes off to the left, the Löfer Rabenlaypfad dream pathlet and Moselsteig hike turn right with a view of Ehrenburg castle, up to the nearby K41 and across it. Shortly whereafter the route descends into the woodland on the right. After crossing this and a tangible descent, the Moselsteig hike leaves the dream pathlet, which now follows the edge of the meadows. Now and again, you can catch glimpses of Thurant castle on the other side of the Moselle before the hike dives into the forest a final time at a fairground. A short trail passage next returns you to the starting point of the round tour again. The portal at the shelter is only a few steps away now down to the right.

Safety guidance – stay safe whilst hiking on the Traumpfade/Traumpfädchen

Hikers like narrow pathways, unspoilt natural trails (leading over the forest floor, across the grass or alongside streams) and rocky climbs which lead to spectacular views. It goes without saying that particular care should be exercised when taking such routes. 

Things to bear in mind when preparing for your hike   

• Wear proper clothing that is appropriate to the weather conditions and that will protect you against the cold and the wet or the heat and the sun.
• Schedule suitable breaks during your hike and make sure that you conserve energy.
• Take sufficient liquids with you. Establishments selling refreshments are not available everywhere.
• When hiking on the Traumpfade, please wear appropriate hiking boots which provide a sufficient foothold on slippery, steep, rocky and uneven paths.
• If you do not feel that you are able to negotiate certain parts of the route, then you should avoid such sections or else turn back. Natural pathways may become muddy and treacherous, especially in unfavourable weather.
• In autumn in particular, please remember that leaves lying on the ground may be concealing bumps, routes, stones or holes in the path.
• You will need to expect route impairments of this kind if you are intending to undertake a hike.
• Before setting out, visit https://www.traumpfade.info/traumpfaedchen/wege-status/ in order to find out whether the route you intend to hike is closed or whether diversions are in place. Construction works, timber felling or other disruptions may also be planned.
• Recommended hiking season: April to October

Surefootedness and a head for heights are required in some sections.

You should not embark upon the tours in icy conditions. 

Robust footwear is recommended!
