Paddling experience to the Saarburg waterfall and through a picturesque wine-growing landscape in the Wiltinger Saarbogen nature reserve.

On a canoe tour with Kanu SaarFari on the Saar, you will discover the scenic beauty of the Saar valley in a completely new way. You should not miss the short detour into the Leuk. The route leads between the pond walls to the Leukkessel, from where you can look down on the 20 metre-high waterfall. The route then continues down the Saar through the marvellous wine region to Schoden. The route then continues through the Wiltinger Saarbogen. The Wiltinger Saarbogen, which is a nature reserve, is the most beautiful section of the Saar for many with its lively rapids. The landscape experience is unique, as you pass river cots, fields of water lilies, shields and reedbeds as well as kingfishers. From Kanzem, the paddling pleasure continues downstream past the districts of Konz-Hamm and Konz-Filzen to Konz-Könen.

General information

Directions

Canoe tour without a guide from Saarburg - waterfall - Schoden - Wiltinger Saarbogen - Kanzem lock - Konz-Könen.Level of difficulty: medium flow speed, partly on the shipping lane.

On a canoe tour with Kanu SaarFari on the Saar, you will discover the scenic beauty of the Saar valley in a whole new way. The adventure begins at the rowing jetty of the rowing club on the right bank of the Saar in the district of Saarburg-Beurig. You should definitely take the detour into the Leuk to the waterfall basin. Paddle between the pond walls to the Leuk basin, from where the waterfall plunges 20 metres over rocky cascades.

The varied tour continues down the Saar through the wine-growing landscape to Schoden. After loading the boats onto the canoe trolley and rounding the dam wall, the most beautiful section of the tour follows through the Wiltinger Saarbogen. Between Schoden and the Kanzem lock, the Saar is almost untouched. The Wiltinger Saarbogen, which is a nature conservation area, provides a real boost to the canoe trip with its winding rapids. The landscape experience is unique, as you pass river cots, water lily fields, reeds and reed beds and, with a bit of luck, you may even spot kingfishers.Further downstream, the statue of St Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, greets you from the banks of the Saar in Konz-Hamm. The paddle tour continues to Konz-Könen. There you have reached your destination.

Return journey from Konz-Könen with bus route 290 to Saarburg. Or return journey from Konz main station by train to Saarburg.Cars can also be parked at the canoe station in Konz-Könen in the morning. Then take public transport to Saarburg.

Safety Guidelines

Preserve and protect nature!

- As canoeists, we love nature, want to protect it, preserve it and set an example for others.

- In order to avoid trampling damage, we only start and stop at specially designated entry and exit points.

- We do not paddle our boats into reed beds, reed beds or pond and water lily areas so that the plants are not destroyed.

- To avoid disturbing waterfowl and other river dwellers, we do not paddle too close to the animals and stay away from nesting sites and retreat areas and keep as quiet as possible.

- We make sure that no plastic bottles or other rubbish fall into the river.

- For species conservation reasons, pets are not permitted in the boat in the nature reserve.

What do I need to bear in mind?

- The Saar is a major shipping route and, as in road traffic, there is an absolute ban on drugs and alcohol!

- For their own safety, canoe tour participants should be able to swim. Children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult for their first canoeing experience.

- Our life jackets are very comfortable and do not hinder paddling. They provide buoyancy in the event of capsizing and protect against cold and injury. Even very good swimmers wear a buoyancy aid with us.

- Large vessels always have right of way. To avoid being surprised by a large push boat, canoeists always paddle on the edge of the big river.

- Prohibited and life-threatening areas, e.g. in front of weirs, are marked with a red-white-red sign. These areas must be avoided on a large scale.
