The circular trail is particularly suitable for families with children, as there is a lot to see on a short stretch.
Situated on both sides of the Moselle and overlooked by the impressive ruins of Landshut Castle, Bernkastel-Kues invites you on a journey through over 2,000 years of history. You can see splendidly decorated half-timbered houses, the early Gothic St. Michael's Church with its baroque organ, the Renaissance town hall and the Renaissance fountain on the market square.
Insights into the city walk:
If you are looking for a moderate ascent to Landshut Castle, we recommend the Family Circuit. The walk leads through Bernkastel with its romantic alleys, along the Tiefenbach stream to the small waterfall, past the Tinkel chapel and finally up to the castle. The route is longer than the other two paths leading from the historic market square and the sharpened house up to the castle, but has the advantage that it leads through the town forest from the Burgbergtunnel and shade-giving trees make the ascent easier on hot days.
On the way through the old town there are many nice places to stop for refreshments.
Start at the tourist information office. Straight ahead past the fountain you cross Karlsbader Platz, follow Moselstraße and (Old) Römerstraße. The path continues to the double cross and along Burgstraße to the eastern portal of the Burgbergtunnel. There you cross the main road and a few meters later you enter the city forest. If you wish, you can soon turn left into a path that leads down to the Tiefenbach stream and to the small waterfall of the stream. Otherwise you continue straight on to the Tinkel chapel, where shortly before you will also find a path from the brook valley leading up from the waterfall. At the chapel you turn sharp right into the tarred road and follow it uphill until the first bend. Here the forest path branches off to Landshut Castle. You walk around and visit the castle (not signposted). At the castle entrance follow the asphalt road downhill towards the Moselle (Schlossweg). After a detour to the St. Anna chapel you continue to descend the tarred path and turn from Schlossweg into Karlstraße. It leads to the medieval market place at the Spitzhäuschen, where the signs end.

Without a detour to the waterfall, the round tour can also be done with an all-terrain pram.
