"Schöne Aussicht" refuge and barbecue area

Shelter and barbecue area The "Schöne Aussicht" viewpoint is just a few meters lower than the Bumkopf, the highest point along the Hunsrück side of the Moselle at 422 m. From the parking lot directly on the district road, a natural path leads around 200 m down into the forest. This beautiful spot was made accessible by a footpath as early as 1880 and in 1896 the Hunsrück Association built the first refuge, a "Schweizerhäuschen". In 1910, the Moselhöhen long-distance path was built and in 1927, the Briedel local history and tourist association opened up the entire hiking area of Briedel Switzerland to hikers and nature lovers seeking relaxation. In 1968, the Briedel carnival society took over the care of this wonderful place and built a new shelter. A barbecue area and children's play equipment followed over the years. From up here, our view sweeps down the slope covered with old deciduous and coniferous trees to the Moselle 285 meters below us. The Moselle loop of the Zeller Hamm flows around the Barl plateau, which is crowned with vines, and in the background, below the Marienburg, we can see the "Scherenheller Sattel". This is the narrowest point where the meandering Moselle makes almost a complete circle and meets again at a distance of around 300 meters. Several gale-force winds in recent years have caused extensive damage to the tall fir trees, so that the area is now surrounded by natural growth of low deciduous trees.
