All around Germany’s longest Hanging Rope Bridge

Starting out from the Visitors’ Information Centre in Mörsdorf, you follow the marked path (originally also the access path leading to Saar-Hunsrück-Steig) along the slope of Geierlay to Mückenberg, where the Mörsdorf bridgehead of this impressive construction is located. This is where the adventure begins! With its gentle swaying the handing rope bridge soon causes hearts to beat faster. More than 360 m long, this sophisticated construction spans across the Mörsdorf creek valley a good 100 m below. When crossing this lofty bridge, approx. 80 cm wide, you experience a clear sense of adventure and magnificent views of the charming outskirts of the Hunsrück present themselves. Once you have safely reached the Sosberg bridgehead you follow a hiking path that bears left into the forest and leads you downhill with the odd swerve or two into the valley, where you find yourself back on the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig after covering a distance of 3.8 km. You return to Mörsdorf via the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig in the direction of Blankenrath and, from the “5-Wege-Platz” (Five Paths Square) along the Saar-Hunsrück access path to Mörsdorf. After this steep climb the circle of this tour is complete after 6.4 km.

Would you like to lengthen your tour? Then simply set off from the centre of Sosberg. You will thus be able to enjoy approx. 10 km hiking fun around Geierlay. And from the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig it is also possible to take a detour rich in thrills beginning at the 5-Wege-Platz (4 km, if you only round the bridge, or 5.5 km to the Visitors’ Information Centre).
